Frequently Asked Questions

Something got you confused? Here you can find answers to most questions you may have.

What is CryptoRome?

The setting is Ancient Rome. CryptoRome takes the best in resource-production games and combines them with the best in strategic conquest games to create a mega-world of economic, political, and military strategy. The main objective is to rise in power to the level of a Senator, and ultimately, become Caesar.

What do I need to get started?

While not a requirement to play the game, we encourage players to install Metamask. Metamask is a simple way to run Ethereum dapps on your browser. It is a 3rd-party extension for the Opera, Chrome, Firefox, and Brave browsers. It can be downloaded and more information can be found here.

Here’s a helpful video to get started with Metamask:

How do I get Ether to make purchases?

To use Metamask for CryptoRome, you will require ETH in your Metamask wallet. Everyone has the option to use a 3rd-party cryptocurrency exchange to purchase ETH and send it to their Metamask wallet's address.

If you live in the US, you have the ability to purchase ETH directly through Metamask using their Coinbase widget.

How do I make purchases?

1) Using Metamask or credit card
2) Metamask: Once ETH is in your Metamask wallet, you will be able to make a purchase using Metamask in our Marketplace. When you select an item to purchase, you will be required to submit the transaction in the Metamask app. You will notice a nominal gas charge, which is a normal fee paid to the individuals that host and protect the Ethereum blockchain. See image of Metamask here:

Can I just use my credit card?

Yes! We’ve made it possible for players to store purchases made with a credit card in the GigLabs Ethereum wallet vault. At anytime, the user will be able to transfer their purchases to an Ethereum wallet of their choice.

In order to make purchases with a credit card, users will need to login using Google or through the standard email and password.

We accept VISA, American Express, Discover, and Mastercard. See our Terms and Conditions for additional information.

How can I view my purchased assets?

When you enter the CryptoRome portal, click on “My Assets”. This will display all of the assets you own in CryptoRome.

How will land be distributed?

Your land will be assigned according to land type (City, Village, Town, Plot). You will receive a land card for each land type you purchased, which will include various standard and randomly-assigned attributes associated with that land.

What is the difference between cities, towns, villages, and plots?

Each land type produces different amounts of resources and soldiers:

City: The largest piece of land in CryptoRome. A city is comprised of 3 towns. Cities can be divided into 3 towns and 3 towns can be combined to create a city. Cities produce 3 times more resources than towns. However, cities produce 3 times, plus an additional bonus factor, more soldiers than a town.
Town: Towns are part of a city and can be combined at later stages in the game to create a city. A town is comprised of 3 villages. Towns can be broken up into 3 villages and 3 villages can be combined to create a town. However, towns produce 3 times, plus an additional bonus factor, more soldiers than a village.
Village: Villages are part of a town and can be combined at later stages in the game to create a town. Villages produce more resources and soldiers than plots. They are the lowest form of land that can be combined to create bigger land types during the game.
Plot: Plots are the free entry land type for CryptoRome. Every player can own a plot. Plots cannot be combined into larger land types, but they do produce soldiers and resources that can be used in the playing of CryptoRome. Plot owners will be able to battle for Europe. They will also be able to sell and buy resources from the other citizens of CryptoRome. The Battle for Europe game limits each player to one plot per account.

Is there a limit to the amount of resources each land type can hold?

The short answer is no. Though each land type produces resources at a different rate, all land types can accumulate, purchase, and/or hold onto any amount of resources. So a plot can theoretically store just as many resources as a city.

Can I just play with a plot?

Sure. Plots can theoretically be improved beyond the level of a village. And since there is the "idle game" aspect (i.e. you can leave for a week and come back with your plot having amassed a number of daily resource production), you can then use your amassed resources to build an improvement on said plot to increase resource production rate.

Can I play on my smartphone or tablet?

Unlike most blockchain based games, CryptoRome is supported on your phone and tablet. We are able to do this through the ability to tie Ethereum addresses to the unique accounts we create. The game will initially be accessible on your phone and tablet via mobile browser. Our roadmap includes plans for native apps for both Android and iPhone as well. Only those that own land will be able to play the game. You do not have to purchase land to play. Plots can be acquired for free just by creating a username.

Can I sell my land and resources?

Yes! The CryptoRome Marketplace allows CryptoRome citizens to sell and purchase land and other assets. CryptoRome citizens will also be able to sell and attain the resources necessary to support their battle efforts throughout the rest of Europe, modify their land, and build buildings that will enhance their land and military might.

Can I modify my land?

Each piece of land in CryptoRome will be of a specific terrain. This land can be modified with industry, mines, and farms. These modifications will be represented by Smart Contracts that are attached to the land smart contract. Modifications will improve land resource production and permit citizens of CryptoRome to construct better soldiers and battle equipment to improve their efficiency in the battle for Europe.

How do the battles work?

The digital assets in Italia that are purchased during the land sale will enable users to play in battles. This land will forever belong to the CryptoRome citizen unless they sell it to another citizen in the marketplace. The remaining land in Europe is different. This land is available for conquer daily. Users will contribute resources, soldiers, and equipment to battle for different pieces of land. At midnight each day, the results of battle are calculated and a smart contract is updated on the Ethereum blockchain to reflect the results of battle and resource accounting from battle. This contract will be available for all to see and will indicate the Senators and Caesar of CryptoRome for the following 24 hour period. Caesar and Senators will receive daily prizes. In time, Ceasar and the Senators will receive a portion of the transaction fees for all transactions made within the marketplace for this period (in CryptoRome, this is known as collecting taxes). For more information, check out our Medium blog periodically as we post information about the game and tips.
